Bright Young Things

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the last (sadly) Central St Martins Jewellery Design Degree Show to be held in their Charing Cross Road building.  Typical to the CSM reputation, the show was bursting at the seams with exciting new talent, and I look forward to following the inevitable rise of some of the graduates.  The above photos are of extremely poor quality, due to the fact that I had about 2 seconds to take them, as I was only (half) permitted to take them.  They show the final collection of my close friend, emerging designer, Debbie Millsop.  Citing her influences as traditional chain mail and Mayan traditions, Debbie's jewellery juxtaposes harsh against delicate, natural against manmade, and exquisite craftsmanship against effortless organic forms.  Gaining particular interest in the exhibition was the stunning feather-collared, chainmail neckpiece, the largest piece to be shown, and one of the most memorable. Although largely wearable, this collection has an powerful couture air, fitting as the "armour" of the modern day, and celebrating the woman as warrior.

See Debbie Millsop's collection in the New Designers exhibition, Angel from tomorrow onwards
